Bayousphere The university’s literary arts magazine is accepting submissions for Bayousphere 2005 in the areas of fiction, nonfiction, art, photography and poetry. Student Publications, 281-283-2570.

Basics of Running a Small Business 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Bayou Building. This workshop is loaded with fresh insights for starting, building and running a small business. CAMP, 281-283-3121.

September 20 – November 5
English Enhancement for Foreign Professionals Seven-week course designed for those who have studied English previously but are having difficulties with the language. The course helps participants strengthen communication skills, pronunciation and vocabulary. Foreign Languages, 281-283-3033.

September 22-23
Contract Writing: How to Lay the Foundation for Agreements that Work 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Bayou Building. This introductory course helps those responsible for negotiating, developing, writing or managing contractual relationships understand the contracting process. CAMP, 281-283-3121.

October 2, 9 and 16
GRE Review 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Bayou Building. A three-session prep course for GRE improves test scores and offers a greater chance for selection by the graduate school of choice. CAMP, 281-283-3121.

October 3
Mercury Baroque Ensemble: A Day in Venice, 1725 2 p.m., Bayou Theater. The Mercury Baroque Ensemble will take the audience on an aural tour of Venice in 1725 using period instruments and historically accurate performance methods. The concert will feature the music of Vivaldi, Albinoni and Caldara. The ensemble will be conducted by Antoine Plante and will feature soprano Ana Trevino-Godfrey. Student Life, 281-283-2560.

October 22
Garcia y Reyna 8 p.m., Bayou Theater. Classical guitarists Jeremy S. Garcia and Rosendo Reyna join forces to create their own style of “neuvo flamenco.” Together with percussionist Jim Bedinghaus and bassist Richard Saldivar, the group performs original compositions in a lively performance. October 30

November 5-6
Eighth Annual Student Leadership Conference Bayou Building. Established for community college and university students who want to develop and expand their leadership skills, the conference features a nationally renowned keynote speaker and more than 20 different workshops. November 6
Ventriloquist Lynn Trefzger 7:30 p.m., Bayou Theater. Ventriloquist and comedian Lynn Trefzger will perform a show that’s fun for all ages using dummies, puppets, inanimate objects and unsuspecting bystanders to create an evening full of laughs. Student Life, 281-283-2560.

November 19
